The church first met on 29 March 1999 and was founded as a result of requests from those sitting in circle at the time. The first meeting took place at the leisure centre in Littleport and the church moved to the Village Hall (upstairs committee room). With growing numbers attending the church it moved to the main hall and continued to grow.
The then committee decided to join the Spiritualist National Union. On 27 September 2001 a service of affiliation and dedication took place in the Village Hall presided over by the then President of the Spiritualist National Union, Duncan Gascoigne. As the saying goes the rest is history but the church has continued to flourish over the years. There have been many people who have received help and upliftment just by coming through the doors on a Thursday night, some have stayed and taken an active part in the running of the church some have received what was needed at the time and moved on .
On 11th October 2012 the church changed venues and moved into the Larkfield Resource Centre, High Barns, Ely and was renamed Ely and District Spiritualist Church at a service conducted by Minister June Hughes and attended by over sixty people including civic dignitaries.
Following the closure of the church due to Covid restriction, the committee decided to seek new larger accommodation to hold services and demonstrations of mediumship. The Ely Museum had just completed a refurbishment program including the construction of a new community room. Our first meeting in the new room was on the 27 October 2021.
